Center for Disease Control recommends the following suggestions to help stay healthy.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

 Parent Information Resource Center
The Board of Education recognizes that parents and guardians are their child’s most influential teachers. Continuous parental involvement in a child’s education contributes greatly to achievement and a positive school environment.

During the June 10 board meeting, trustees recognized several staff members who are retiring from the district.  We have pictures honoring the following employees:

Tere Lawrence, Central and Ishi Middle School (Counselor)
Jill Prouty, Bird Street School (Kindergarten)
Susan Redfern, Central Middle School (English/language Arts, GATE)
Margaret Salerno, Sierra del Oro (Pre-School)

During the board meeting, trustees expressed appreciation for Mike Harvey ((Oakdale Heights), Dee Sullivan (Oakdale Heights), Tom Ruonavarra (Ophir), Pat Ruppert (Oakdale Heights) and Paul Mooney (Wyandotte Ave School Independent Study). Together, the certificated and classified retirees have over 119 years of service to the district.

At the June 24 board meeting, trustees honored Assistant Superintendent of Business Susan Jeffers for her 28 years of service to the district.  A dedicated and extremely knowledgeable employee, Susan began working for OCESD in 1981!!  Next fall, she will have a grandson attending Wyandotte School.  She plans to be very active in our schools being a “granny” volunteer.
